I now have a very few newly manufactured heavy duty axle shafts in stock.
The following improvements have been applied:
Old Material: 1340 Steel, New Material: 1541 Steel.
Heat treated by high temperature induction.
Old surface harness: #50-#55, New surface hardness #62
(the surface hardness penetrates to about 1/3 of diameter)
The shaft contour has been redesigned to make the shaft more resistant
to snapping under load, and to reduce the instances of breaking in the spline area.

These covers are similar to the cast aluminum covers fitted by the
factory for a few months in 1946. They have an octagon shaped flip-up cap
held down by an octagonal shaped nut. Both cap and nut have the MG logo
cast into their upper surface. Clean "Coffin" shape with highly polished
natural finish. Seals better than the stamped sheet metal covers and looks
really sharp!
